Head-to-Head

In this article we want to make you familiar with the head to head betting system and explain H2H using very simple examples

What is a head to head bet?

There are countless ways to bet, several strategies and betting systems. One of the most interesting types/ betting strategies is that one of head to head betting, which have become more and more popular within the last couple years. However, head to head betting is perhaps the most traditional form of betting. In head to head betting, you essentially bet on the outcome of the match, win, lose and in the case of football, draw. The concept of a head to head bet finds its origin in horse racing. It is the English name for the head to head races and is often abbreviated with H2H. In a head to head bet the comparison is exclusively drawn between two competitors. The performance of all other competitors is irrelevant.

A H2H bet always offers the players two possibilities to place a tip. You either bet on a victory for A or B, or a defeat of A or B. For example you can use a head to head bet to compare ski racers or motor sports pilots with each other. But also in football its popularity increases. You can bet on whether a team collects more points throughout the season than another, or a player scores more goals than the other. The head to head tips are a very simple type of bets, which are especially useful for newcomers or inexperienced betters. For our new/inexperienced users we also have an interesting article about safe – or sure bets.

For which sports the head to head strategy is particularly suitable?

Head to head bets are of particular interest for individual sports and especially in any form of racing. More than in others, head to head bets are very popular in motor sports. Whether Formula 1, Moto GP or any other car- and motor sports, head to head bets offer a broad variety of possibilities on how to place a bet. In most of the motor sports, like Formula 1, head to head bets offer two types of bets. You can either bet team (team-H2H-bet) or the individual driver.
But not only in motor sports this form of betting enjoys extraordinary popularity. This strategy for example is greatly suited for ski racing. Head to head bets origin can be found in horse racing, where this type of betting still is very popular and often offers attractive odds. Also in golf this type of betting has to be emphasized. Two golf professionals are compared over the course of a tournament. Often H2H bets can be very profitable in this sport, since players often come from behind after underperforming in the first rounds. So once you have the right feeling for the right timing, the profit can become extraordinary.

Examples for head to head bets

Manchester United are playing Liverpool. A bookmaker will offer odds on either side to win or for the match to end in a draw. When you bet on Manchester United, if they win the match, you win the bet. If the match ends in either a draw or a Liverpool victory, you lose the bet.
Head to head betting that involves the draw as a third outcome option is also known as 3-way betting. Another sport where 3-way betting is popular is Ice hockey.
Most sports however, only have two possible outcomes. In sports such as tennis, basketball and baseball, you bet on either team to win the match. If the Los Angeles Lakers are playing the Boston Celtics, you can bet that either the Lakers will win or the Celtics will win.
As you can see, much of the popularity of head to head betting is derived from its simplistic format. It’s an easy and very familiar way for people to bet and an ideal starting point for anybody beginning their journey into sports betting.

Can you earn money with head to head bets?

Unlike a scorebet or halftime/fulltime bet, there are only two possible outcomes for a head to head bet. This keeps the risk at a quite manageable range. A possible disadvantage are the often very low odds associated with head to head bets.
However, anyone who brings a lot of knowledge in the respective sport with them, can also place their bets on riskier comparisons with the chance of higher odds and more money. Also head to head bets are great for cheering, because what is more exciting than betting on a Formula 1 driver and then watch the race?
